Practice. I plan on repainting my Dreamcast later on.
Too bad I was working with such a thick marker, but it still turned out pretty good. This is about four coats done in two stages, plus I went through three or four designs in Photoshop. I may add more later when I can afford more markers.

So did you make a stencil in photoshop or just draw it up to use a reference when drawing it on the DJ hero controller?
I measured the contours of the controller by hand, painstakingly made a 1:1 masking demo in Photoshop, laid out several designs with vectors and custom brushes, printed them out, and promptly discarded them and painted shit.
I did put down a rough pencil outline of what I wanted, though.
